Okatie, SC (June 15, 2011)—Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) is asking customers on the sea islands of Northern Beaufort County to temporarily reduce water consumption. The Authority is urging conservation due to higher-than-normal de mand brought on by high temperatures, increased irrigation and an influx of visitors to the resort area s. The affected area includes St. Helena Island, Lady’s Island, Fripp Island, Dataw Island, Cat Island, Harb or Island and surrounding areas. Southern Beaufort County and other areas in Northern Beaufort County are not affected. BJWSA anticipates demands to remain high for the ne xt several weeks, or unt il we receive significant rainfall in the region. Residents and visitors in the Northern Beaufort sea islands area are urged to conserve water by limiting irrigation, taking shorter showers, only washing dishes and clothes when loads are full and reducing general water usage. The most important times to conserve are from 6:00 am – 10:00 am and 5:00 pm – 9pm. Residents will be able to return to normal usage once demand decreases and the stress on the distribution system is minimized. The conservation measures are not mandatory; however, BJWSA appreciates any cooperation during this process.
