Okatie, SC (July 17, 2013) – Jasper County received Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding from the SC Department of Commerce for extension of a sewer line in Okatie. The project will extend sewer service to about 40 customers along Old Bailey’s Loop in Jasper County (see map). The grant award totals $389,050, with contributions from both Jasper County and Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority.
Each year, communities from across South Carolina apply for competitive CDBG funds. With the aid of the Lowcountry Council of Governments, a grant application was submitted to the SC Department of Commerce on behalf of Jasper County. CDBG grants can fund a wide variety of projects from revitalizing neighborhoods to improving community infrastructure, providing public facilities and creating or retaining jobs. The state program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
BJWSA’s staff will begin design of the project soon, and construction should begin before the end of 2013.
